The course aims at forming in the students a critical and conscious attitude towards the role of technology in the design process.
The course offers a "formative path" directed to the understanding of: principles and rules of technological design in their historical development; availability and conscious use of material resources and construction procedures;incidence of technological options over symbolic and expressive values of architecture.
Course Content - Part B
Introduction to Architectural Technology; performance theory; technological and functional complexity of construction products (from building system to the material); principles of structural and envelop behaviuor and environmental sustainability. Stone, ceramic, wood and derivatives; binders, mortars and concrete, metals and alloys, reinforced concrete, glass, synthetic materials, composite materials, bio-ecological materials. Foundations, structures; walls, roofs, stairs, windows, plants.

Learning Objectives - Part B
The class aims to provide knowledge on materials, products and building elements, highlighting the role of technology in architectural design. The course is the first approach of the student to Architectural Technology and addresses the basic issues of architectural construction with emphasis on the methods and criteria for the selection and application in the design process, guiding the student towards an integrated approach between the design phase and construction phase.
Prerequisites - Part B
Basic knowledge of mathematics, geometry, physics.
Teaching Methods - Part B
The course includes the following educational activities: Lessons, exercises, visits to the site and / or firms of construction products and / or trade fairs
Further information - Part B
Attendance is not mandatory but students are kindly requested to participate in the lessons and all the activities of the programme.
The class uses a e-learning platform.
Type of Assessment - Part B
During the program tests are scheduled for the assessment of acquired knowledge. To the examination, each student will arrive with a valuation that takes into account the educational progress and achievements in the mid-term test. The final examination is a discussion on the topics proposed in the program and exercises.
