Particular attention is given to the analysis and understanding of financial, production and organizational restrictions that constrain and guide the process of constructing building works.

The Project Design Management Course is aimed at providing technical skills to be applied with efficiency, effectiveness and reliability in the context of professional practice. The course includes lectures and bibliographic learning integrated with design activities and practical applications that the students can carry out choosing between:
- independent study, for non-attending students
- supervised study, for attending students
Independent study The teaching method includes theoretical study activities for the acquisition of basic knowledge through the proposed text books, selected lectures, IT tools and practical design activities agreed with the professor, to be carried out independently with periodic individual reviews.
Supervised study relates to theoretical study activities to learn the basic knowledge through educational communications which will develop the topics covered by the course. It will be up to the student to develop the necessary insights from the texts indicated in the bibliography.
The educational objectives in the ‘supervised study’ mode are also achieved through participation in practical learning activities (exercises) and assessments made during the course. Specifically, the following exercises are planned:
1. Analysis of design competitions. This is an individual test to be carried out independently in the classroom based on a special format and three calls for tenders to select the design and the designer (ideas competition, design competition, contract for design services) provided by the professor.
2. Design. The exercise concerns in-depth knowledge of some aspects of the technical information of a project. Students are called upon to develop, individually in the classroom and in subsequent programmed steps, the documentation required with the levels of detail that correspond to the final and detailed design: project drawings, lists of specifications, and bill of quantities.

Two assessment methods are planned in relation to the type of learning chosen by the student.
Independent study Learning is assessed through both an oral test and a discussion/evaluation of the technical and contractual documentation produced for the project.
Supervised study Learning is assessed through both oral interviews on the knowledge gained from the educational communications and an assessment of the exercises carried out during the semester.
The oral interviews on the knowledge gained from the educational communications are conducted through planned intermediate assessments, specifically two, and the latter, relative to the second educational segment, can even be substituted (at the student's choice) by the preparation of a document in UNI A1 format which must represent the organizational chart of a project that has been completed. The organizational chart, to be presented in the classroom, must diagrammatically identify the roles, responsibilities, phases, project control points, testing of the works, as well as the times for signing the individual contracts for consultancy, design and execution of the works. The preparation of the documentation includes review meetings with the professor starting from approval of the topic according to the schedule set out in the lesson timetable.

Educational objectives
The Project Design Management Course is aimed at providing technical skills to be applied with efficiency, effectiveness and reliability in the context of professional practice. Specifically the objective is to educate students so they acquire the knowledge necessary to consciously deal with the production system and its constituent elements and to understand the concepts, strategies, tools and techniques for developing a comprehensive project and a strategic/managerial approach to the process.

In order to achieve the objectives stated the course aims to develop the following topics:
• decision-making process, administrative programming and feasibility studies;
• role of process operators and implications for design and production in the construction industry;
• technical information to support design decisions and actions in the implementation process;
• project life cycle: decision-making and operational phases according to which the building process develops, from the scheduling of the works up to management and maintenance;
• project management and information content;
• traditional and advanced building process models;
• construction process and its organization.
The topics addressed will be focused on with particular attention to the regulatory and procedural context in the Public Works sector.
The educational programme also includes the teaching and guide to the application of methodologies and tools to be applied in professional practice.

-LEGGE 28 gennaio 2016, n. 11, Deleghe al Governo per l'attuazione delle direttive 2014/23/UE, 2014/24/UE e 2014/25/UE del Parlamento europeo e del Consiglio, del 26 febbraio 2014 sull'aggiudicazione dei contratti di concessione, sugli appalti pubblici e sulle procedure d'appalto degli enti erogatori nei settori dell'acqua, dell'energia, dei trasporti e dei servizi postali, nonché' per il riordino della disciplina vigente in materia di contratti pubblici relativi a lavori, servizi e forniture.
