Learning Objectives
The main goal of the course is to introduce students in the study of culture and technique of landscape design.
The applied teaching intends to develop skills of design interpretation of relationships between knowledge, choices, technical representation, communication.
Prerequisites
Theoretical and applied teaching is based on all the scientific and technical knowledge that the student has acquired through the teachings of the first year of the degree course.
The course has no obliges toward other teachings.
Teaching Methods
The course uses two complementary teaching methods: lectures, to support the theoretical study, and design reviews, to support the applied study.
In the periodical reviews, students are called upon to deal with the teachers about the progress steps of the projects.
In order to foster a study relationship that simulates the normal activities of a project team, the final design exercise deal with a real situation in the context of an agreement with the Municipality of Pistoia (Tuscany).
Further information
The student has to develop his skills of graphic elaboration of the landscape and of the landscape project. The use of computer technology CAD is recommended, but not required for the specific didactic purposes.
Type of Assessment
An intermediate theoretical test consents to verify the preparation at the end of the lessons and to orient the study.
The exam includes a theoretical discussion and a design exercise to be developed during the study.
The exam is individual. The exercise can be processed in groups of three students at most and is supported by periodic reviews in which students are called upon to deal with the teachers on the states of progress of their projects.
Course program
The course proposes elements of culture and technique of landscape design.
The applied teaching refers to the multiple disciplinary bases of landscape analysis and diagnosis.
The knowledge of the thought and works of authors on the international scene is an important base in the study of the culture of the project. So, the central and most conspicuous part of lectures consists of monograph modules about some experiences developed in North America, Great Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal and other European and non-European countries.
Dr. Camilla Tredici (tutor), dr. Ludovica Marinaro, dr. Marinella Carrieri and dr. Caterina Savi collaborate in the applied activities.
The lessons are planned with the following chronological and thematic framework:
