Overview

Following the implementation of the Gelmini Reform (Law No. 240 of 30 December 2010) and the resulting reorganization of the administrative and academic structures of Italian universities, the School of Architecture was established, replacing the former Faculty.

The School of Architecture thus became the academic structure responsible for coordinating and harmonizing the educational offer in the fields of architecture, territorial and landscape planning, design, and fashion. These areas are characterized by a design-oriented approach, namely the ability to develop the subject of study towards more advanced objectives and to produce integrated solutions that combine multiple fields of knowledge. The ability to interpret reality and propose meaningful hypotheses for its evolution is a defining characteristic of graduates in the design disciplines.

International Outlook

The LMD model adopted for the internationalization of education and student mobility is the one established by the European Union (3-year Bachelor's Degree + 2-year Master's Degree, or a 5-year Single-Cycle Master's Degree for Architecture, followed by Professional Master's programmes and PhD programmes for advanced professional and research training) in architecture, territorial planning, design, and fashion.

In particular, the education offered by the School, from the first to the third cycle, is characterized by the progressive internationalization of its degree programmes (Master's degrees, Professional Master's programmes, and PhD programmes), thematic seminars, and workshops.

Education

The educational system is organized into University Educational Credits (CFU), representing the hours of work completed by the student (independent study, lectures, laboratories, and practical exercises).

The School offers fully English-taught curricula for the Master's Degree in Architecture and the Master's Degree in Urban and Territorial Planning and Design for Sustainability (2 years), in order to encourage the enrollment of students from other European and non-European countries and to support Italian students pursuing an international academic and professional path.

The first-cycle (three-year) degree programmes provide students with fundamental knowledge, skills, and competencies, which are further developed through the three educational areas of architecture, design, and territory.

The School's specialized education is organized into five Master's Degree programmes.

The third cycle of education is now an integral part of higher education. Professional Master's programmes, the School of Specialization, and PhD programmes offer differentiated pathways for professional specialization or research.
