Upon enrollment, each student is assigned the study plan corresponding to the regulations of their Degree Programme. Each Degree Programme includes a certain number of educational activities – courses, laboratories, and foreign language courses.
Some activities are compulsory, while others can be chosen by students. The sum of compulsory and elective activities constitutes the Study Plan.
When submitting the study plan, online or in paper format, students must indicate the examinations they intend to take in order to fulfil the required free-choice credits.
For the choice of elective examinations, students can generally choose between:
For the specific rules defined by each Degree Programme and for the choice of the General Courses offered by the University and active from the academic year 2025/26, please refer to the individual Degree Programme websites.
Codes related to internships, supplementary courses, and language group examinations must not be included. Any exceptions are indicated by the Degree Programme on the specific study plan webpage.
Check the total number of free-choice CFU required by your study plan: it is possible to increase this number up to +6 CFU.
Example: if your study plan requires 12 free-choice CFU, you may add a maximum of an additional 6 CFU, for a total maximum of 18 CFU. The average grade will be calculated on the total number of acquired CFU.
NB: Examinations that are evaluated with a grade contribute to the grade average.
Thematic seminars that are evaluated as pass/fail (eligibility) do not contribute to the grade average.
Students enrolled in the Degree Programmes in Product, Interior, Communication and Eco-Social Design; Design for Sustainable Innovation; Fashion System Design may also include in their free-choice activities the remaining examination(s) from the elective groups.
Study plans are subject to approval by the evaluation committee. Students are therefore advised to consult the study plan evaluation contacts or submit their study plan before taking a chosen elective examination, in order to ensure that the plan will be approved.
Approval is automatic if the study plan does not differ from the official curricula and fully complies with the permitted margins of choice and autonomy (Art. 17, paragraph 3, RDA).
Study Plans and Changes
Study plans (and any changes) must only be submitted during the periods when the online service is open.
In cases of necessity and urgency only (graduating students, Erasmus mobility students, scholarship applications), study plans or changes may be submitted outside the official deadlines. Requests for changes require a €16 stamp duty. These cases must be properly justified according to Art. 17, paragraph 4 of the University Teaching Regulations.
Graduating students must respect the deadlines indicated in the Academic Calendar and submit the study plan at least 30 days before the graduation thesis application.
