How to Calculate the Average
PLEASE NOTE: Honours (“30 e lode”) and exams not included in the study plan are not taken into account when calculating the average grade.
Calculation of the Weighted Average for All Degree Systems Using CFU Credits
- Multiply the exam grade by the corresponding credits (CFU).
(Only exams included in the study plan with a final numerical grade should be counted; pass/fail assessments, such as Thematic Seminars, should not be included.)
-
Add all the results together and divide the total by the sum of the corresponding credits.
This gives the weighted average out of 30.
- To obtain the average out of 110, multiply the result by 11 and divide by 3.
Example:Grade
27 in an 8-credit exam, grade 30 in a 12-credit exam, grade 25 in an 8-credit exam, etc.
(27 × 8 + 30 × 12 + 25 × 8 + ...) / (8 + 12 + 8 + ...) = weighted average out of 30
(weighted average out of 30) × 11 / 3 = weighted average out of 110
Calculation of the Average for Degree Systems Prior to the 2001/2002 Academic Year
- Add together the grades obtained in semester-long exams and divide the total by two.
- Add the resulting figure to the sum of the grades obtained in full-year exams and divide by the number of annual course units included in the study plan (minimum 32). This gives the average out of 30.
- To obtain the average out of 110, multiply the result by 11 and divide by 3.
Calculation of the Average for Degree Systems Prior to the 1994/1995 Academic Year
- Add together the grades of all exams included in the study plan.
- Divide the total by the number of exams to obtain the average out of 30.
- To obtain the average out of 110, multiply the result by 11 and divide by 3.
