The course deals with the complexity of contemporary architecture and the city in the western context, from World War II to the present. In addition to dealing with famous architects and buildings, the course aims to discuss how the role of the architect in society has changed in recent decades, and which are the role and tasks of architecture in the capitalist economic system.

More specific readings will be given during the lectures.
Obiettivi Formativi
The course aims to provide students with the knowledge and method to consciously approach the architectural phenomenon in contemporary society and the economic forces, going beyond the media system of the "archistars", the incessant novelty and the waste of language and resources.
Metodi Didattici
Ex cathedra lessons will be alternated with guest lectures and study trips. In addition to the general readings, specific bibliographic references will be provided in the course of the lectures.
Modalità di verifica apprendimento
During the course, students will be asked to elaborate a historical thematic paper. The final mark of the course will result from the average of this paper and an oral interview.
